The article discusses the role of human capital and its main characteristics. The necessity of labor motivation to improve the competitiveness of human capital is substantiated. The essence of motivation as the central concept in improving the efficiency of human capital is explained and studied. The content, main stages, and principles of the motivation process are explained. Modern theories of motivation were considered and it was determined that in these theories the primary attention is paid to the analysis of human needs and their influence on labor motivation.
