Artificial intelligence and the sustainable development goals: A global perspective and the Azerbaijan context

Summary

This article analyzes the contribution of artificial intelligence to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the framework of global and national policy agendas. Drawing on international reports and policy documents, the study evaluates the opportunities created by artificial intelligence in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, water resource management, public administration, and innovation, as well as the associated ethical, legal, institutional, and environmental risks. The article also provides a comparative analysis of the alignment between the SDGs and the strategic policy documents adopted in the Republic of Azerbaijan in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital economy, digital development, water resource management, and gender equality. As a result, the study proposes policy recommendations aimed at strengthening the contribution of artificial intelligence to the SDGs, focusing on the development of data infrastructure, computing resources, energy sustainability, human capital, ethical and legal frameworks, and cross-sectoral coordination.
